We are the Bergergut, built in the 17th century and rebuilt again and again since then, until today and tomorrow. Within our walls are passion, love, tradition and history. The Pürmayers and our entire team of hosts have had our backs for generations.
You will find us in Afiesl, in the idyllic Mühlviertel, just 45 minutes from Linz in Upper Austria and 55 minutes from Passau in Germany. Our special characteristics are enjoyable living, slowing down, conscious togetherness and genuine hospitality.
That's me, that's clear. But how did I become the delightful four-star superior hotel that I am today? Well, it was like this... But wait, let my boss, your host Eva Maria Pürmayer, tell you, because she knows the story best:
"Our family have been hosts from the heart for decades. My ancestors have been receiving guests in their parlor since the beginning of the last century. Back then, the Bergergut was still an agricultural estate & a weaving mill and Afiesl was actually still at the end of the world. In the 1990s, my parents innovatively and courageously specialized in couples. We have been following this path consistently, trendily and consciously since 2017: the Bergergut as our very personal favorite place and enjoyable hideaway just for couples in one of the most relaxed places in the world!"

Mühlviertel charm & hospitality since time immemorial
We have always been passionate about the Mühlviertel region, both in the original granite walls of our hotel and in the inner life and hearts of our hosts. This natural, hilly landscape with its countless panoramic views and the rugged, authentic charm of a border region steeped in history is one of the most charming and authentic regions in Austria for all of us. The richly wooded natural diversity, the green border with southern Bohemia, which has hardly been touched by human hands since the fall of the "Iron Curtain", and the many warm-hearted locals are contagious. The Mühlviertel charm is reflected not only in the surroundings but also in the BERGERGUT, in the hearts of its people, in our award-winning cuisine and, for example, in the wide range of beers on offer.
